After many years as Senior Counsel with Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, and as managing partner with Laubach, Fulton & Delaney, Dan now continues in private practice as a sole practitioner providing a wide array of legal services to individuals, institutions and business entities. He also continues his affiliation with Dickie McCamey as Senior Counsel in servicing his corporate clients. In addition to his concentration in the areas of employment and labor law, Dan has expanded his practice to include estate planning, estate administration, business succession, and family law services. With this emphasis on these areas of law, Dan has represented business entities including a multi-state elder care non-profit corporation as its outside general counsel. Acceptable to both management and labor, he is frequently accepted in the tri-state area to hear and to decide disputes as a Labor Arbitrator from the panels of the American Arbitration Association and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Mediation.
Dan received his A.B., cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh where he was tapped into Omicron Delta Kappa [ODK - National Leadership Honorary] and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Pitt Law Record. He is a course planner and frequent lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, along with being an active member of the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations. Dan is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal District Courts of Pennsylvania. He was named to the Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and has maintained an AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell since 1980. Recognized as one of the top attorneys in the state, Dan was named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.
Dan is active in public service and has served as a member of the Salvation Army's Greater Pittsburgh Advisory Board, where he was elected its Chairman in 2007. He is a member and legal advisor of the Fox Chapel Adult Education Board and has served as President and member of the Pittsburgh Mediation Center.
Dan and his wife, Dee, of Fox Chapel, are the parents of Anne (a language coach in San Diego) and Dan, Jr. (a business consultant in Chicago). In addition to his talents as an attorney, Dan is a gifted artist who works with watercolors, as well as an accomplished classical and jazz musician. D.B. Root's lobby area displays some of his original watercolors.
