  • CEO You Should Know: David Root
00:00 / 00:00

David’s efforts are concentrated on setting the tone for the business he founded more than 23 years ago. That includes overseeing the firm’s effort to delight our clients through personal attention as well as disciplined, consistent advice. David’s growth mindset focuses on building, training and supporting the firm’s professional team, as well as continuous improvement of services being offered to our clients. That includes investing in the most current industry technology and resources to complement DBR & Co’s internal capabilities.

The firm’s focus on serving high net worth investors efficiently and cost effectively comes naturally, as David has been helping successful individuals and their families preserve and grow their wealth for more than 30 years. This commitment is strengthened even further through a partnership with industry leader, Charles Schwab.

Under David’s leadership, the firm successfully made the transition to becoming an independent RIA (Registered Investment Advisor), initiated an internal investment committee and developed proprietary processes for Financial Planning (LifePlan 20/20®) and Asset Management (Strategic AIM™). His vision for the future of the industry also resulted in the creation of DBR & Co’s Emerging Wealth Program – a program specifically designed to serve aspiring younger individuals, particularly Millennials who are in the early stages of building wealth.

David is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with our network partners, which includes serving on the advisory board for Dynasty Financial Partners. The firm’s focus on continual improvement has made DBR & Co. one of the Top-Ten Ranked Wealth Management firms in Pittsburgh by Advisory HQ.*

David has also authored several articles and commentaries including “A Further Look” which takes a timely and often non-consensus view of the economy, markets and his own field of financial planning and asset management. You can find the current and previous editions on our website as well as Shared Updates on LinkedIn and on Twitter @Askdbroot. He has also contributed articles and opinions for industry publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Financial Planning, Financial Advisor IQ and Private Asset Management.

Dave also coined the term 'mMillionaire' to describe the most promising, yet overlooked and under served segment (rising affluent) of the investing American public. Popularly referred to today as Next Gen, he and his team have developed a unique concierge-based Emerging Wealth Program to help this demographic group become 'planning ready'.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Communications from the University of Michigan. David also completed the Entrepreneurial Studies program at The University of Pittsburgh.

He and his wife Kathy are the proud parents of two sons – Jesse, a Yale graduate and former professional hockey player who is now serving as an analyst for Hedgeye Risk Management, and Alec, another former college hockey player at Bowdoin College, is also working in the industry as an analyst with Cambridge Associates in Boston. In his spare time, David is passionate about hockey, an avid reader and an enthusiastic, yet often humbled golfer.
